In today’s gospel lesson from Luke 10:38-42 we find Jesus at the home of his friends Lazarus, Mary, and Martha. Mary is sitting at Jesus’ feet, listening to everything he said, while her sister Martha is busy preparing the meal. Martha is distraught by the fact that her sister is spending time with Jesus. Jesus responded to her, and to all of us, with the challenge to make our priority to sit at his feet, to learn from him, and as we shall learn as the story of our Savior in the gospel unfolds, to follow him. “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Here you will find several versions of the song Give Me Jesus, which I think highlights the main point of this Gospel lesson.
