Lent 2019: Walking in the way of Jesus when times are tough – Lessons from the book of James

James, the brother of Jesus, shows us how to live our faith in everyday life

When times get tough, people need practical solutions to get through the day. James, the brother of Jesus, wrote to Jewish Christians in the first century who faced intense pressure from the local Jewish community, as well as their neighbors who had embraced the harsh ways of the Roman empire. James has a blunt, heartfelt, and common-sense way of speaking about following Jesus when times are tough. But James is also very encouraging because he sees how God uses the pressures of the day to lead people into a deeper journey with Jesus, and into more loving relationships with those who needed it the most. God willing, James’ passionate faith in Jesus will lead to you face both the ups and downs of life in this crazy world of ours and consider it all joy!

• We will celebrate Ash Wednesday at both Zion and St. Michael’s.
• St. Michael’s will host the Soup and Salad Meals and Lenten services this year (Zion will host them next year)
• During Lent I will also preach on James at the regular Thursday evening services at Zion from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm.
